&quot;The 23-year-old man accused of setting two church fires in south Denver made his first court appearance Thursday morning. Paul Jackson was given a $50,000 bond and issued a restraining order. <br /><br />Jackson was told to stay away from all victims and witnesses to the crime. <br /><br />Jackson is charged with setting fires at two churchs early Wednesday morning. The Rocky Mountain Miracle Center on South Monroe and the Church In Denver on South Cook are two blocks away from each other. <br /><br />A witness said they saw someone running away from the scene of one fire with a gas can. Police said they later took the suspect into custody. <br /><br />&quot;So I approached him and I said &#39;hey, did you see the fire back there,&#39;&quot; said Kari Hebble, who was out for her morning job. &quot;And he said &#39;no.&#39; And I said &#39;what are you doing with an empty gas can in your hand.&#39; And he said &#39;I need gas.&#39; And I said &#39;where&#39;s your car.&#39; And he said &#39;oh, it&#39;s back at a friend&#39;s house.&#39; And I said &#39;come with me and let&#39;s go look at that fire.&#39;&quot; <br /><br />Jackson&#39;s roommates told CBS4 he lived across the street from the second church. They identified him as a a video game programmer. He lived with them for a couple of months. They had no indication he would do anything like setting fires. <br /><br />The roommates added Jackson was a hard worker, smart and mellow.
